What are you waiting for?

What are you waiting for?

This past week I have encountered a few stark reminders that life is not a rehearsal. We’re not here to test drive this thing called life. This is not a warm up, this is the real deal.

My observation of working one-to-one with business owners is that a lot of people wait.

  • Some people wait for signs
  • Some people wait for approval from their family
  • Some people wait for approval form their friends
  • Some people wait for approval from their peers
  • Some people wait in the hope that the clients will come

What would happen if you gave up waiting and started claiming the business and life that you deserve?

What would happen if you stopped playing small and started thinking in a bigger way about your possibilities?

Many times in my life I’ve been told to ‘be patient’ and for a good 10 years of my adult life I was. I waited patiently in line for promotion, I waited for opportunities to arise to voice my opinions, I waited for people to notice me.

And then something clicked.

I realised that life is too short for playing small or for waiting in line. I realised that to create the business and life I was dreaming of I had to go and claim what I wanted.

So today I want to be your voice of reason. Today I want to help you draw a line in the sand. Today I want you to take ownership of your future.

So, grab a piece of paper and a pen and let’s make a start.

The first step to changing your future is making a plan so ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What are your goals? (Be specific, be clear, be intentional)
  2. Why are they important?
  3. What do you need to change in your life in order to make this happen?
  4. What help do you need to make these goals a reality?

Think of the successful people you know, or look at business people you follow, or even sports people you admire. Read their stories, research them, look at how they made their own success. They didn’t wait for signs, they didn’t wait for approval. They grabbed their dreams with both hands and made it their reality.

I’ll finish on a quote I read the other day:

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a ride?’

Enjoy the ride people!
