How I learnt to ‘dream big’ from my children

Hooray, the summer has arrived here in the UK. At long last we can crack open the summer wardrobe and wear our flip-flops without getting our feet drenched. How long it will last is anyone’s guess but it’s more than welcome to stay!

Today I spent some time in my garden listening to the birds tweeting as I sunbathed. A few years ago I bought a sofa for my garden and it’s my favourite spot for relaxing. As I lay there I felt grateful for the ability to do this safe in the knowledge that I wasn’t in trouble for doing so, I wasn’t letting anyone down and most importantly that I deserved this time. The older I get, the better I become at allowing myself ‘me’ time. ‘Me’ time looks different for everyone but mainly mine is during the week when the children are at school. It ranges from working out, taking hot baths (when it’s cold!), sunbathing (when it’s hot!), reading, listening to music, meditating and someones just snuggling up on the sofa with a chick flick and popcorn. Rather than feeling guilty about this I feel empowered and grateful that by following my heart and creating the businesses I have created, I am allowing this opportunity for self love. Daydreaming is one of my favourite business activities 🙂

I often talk to the children about their dreams and hopes for the future. I actually find it incredibly powerful talking to them about their future. I love their belief that anything is possible. I love that their self worth isn’t clouded by what other people might think or what society dictates they should or could become.

Harry wants to be a tennis player. Or a postman. Grace wants to be a vet. Or a singer.

And who am I to question any of these choices?

I tell them often that:

- Whatever they want in life, they can have. - Whoever they want to be in life, they can be. - Wherever they want to go in life, they can go. - Whatever they want to see in life, they can see.

To see their faces light up with sheer excitement and opportunity is a powerful thing. And quite honestly I’ve learnt a lot about goal setting and manifesting from my 8 and 6 year old.

Think for a moment…..

If you took away all of your self limiting thoughts and beliefs, what would you want to do with your life? If you took away the excuses and hurdles, what would you like to achieve with your business?

If you’re struggling to get clear on your goals and you’re trying to dream big but keep self sabotaging put yourself in the mind of a 6 year old.

Think like a 6 year old *|FNAME|* would think.

How does it feel? Good, right?!

This is part of the goal setting work I do with my clients and it can be an incredibly powerful process. It’s part of my own personal development work that I do every single day and the sole reason I have achieved what I’ve wanted to over the years.

So, why not start today?

  • Create a list of your dreams (these can be anything -  the job, the house, the car, the shoes, the holiday).
  • Write down how it would feel to create these dreams (write the exact emotions you feel when you imagine yourself with these things in your life).
  • Create a moodboard (I use pinterest but you can use good old fashioned paper/scissors/sellotape).

Starting with the dream can be just the motivation you need to kick start your self development. Remind yourself often of what you want to create. If it works then use a daily mantra to remind yourself of what you’re here to achieve. And most importantly, never give up on that dream.

With Love,

Faye x
