Don't Put The Key To Your Happiness
In Someone Else's Pocket
Today I listened (as I do every day) to Chris Evans on Radio Two. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but he offers me the right level of enthusiasm to get me motivated for the school run!
I particularly like the 'Pause for Thought' section of his show. I love that in the chaos of your commute or school run, these few moments can bring your feet back down to earth and set aside any anxiety or stress you've accidentally manifested for the day. I also love that the speakers in this segment all come from different backgrounds, worship different gods and have different belief systems. But they all share a common goal - to find happiness within faith.
This morning Father Brian D'Arcy (an Irish Catholic Priest) spoke beautifully about being the master of your own happiness. He said something so profound that I immediately knew I had to write this weeks newsletter on it:
"Don't Put The Key To Your Happiness
In Someone Else's Pocket"
The moment I heard this I knew I had to share this with you. As small business owners who have to juggle so many daunting parts of our business I often hear the same doubts from my coaching clients:
- What if nobody likes my work
- I'm not as good as the other suppliers in my field
- I have hardly any followers
- I spend hours every day comparing my work to others
- I prefer everyone else's work to mine
When I first started my photography business I was SO worried about posting on social media. I felt sick at the thought of it and spent hours re-writing my posts 'in case nobody liked it'. I worried what my 'friends' (facebook friends!) would think about my new venture. I spent hours in facebook groups reading other people's posts and trying to figure out what my direction should be.
What a complete waste of time.
Not only was I wasting HOURS but I was also allowing my doubts to make business decisions for me. So today I thought I'd take this opportunity to remind you that YOU hold the key to your happiness.
So, if you're lacking direction or confidence... dust of your key and find a way to unlock your happiness!
Here's to another successful and HAPPY week!
Love
